The Bhagavad Gita
Meditation and Study Group

Take a journey through the ancient, sacred and elegant Hindu scripture, also known as “The Song of God” or “The Song of the Beloved”. Come discover why today more than ever, this text is still quite relevant and inspirational for people from all walks of life:

• The Gita was the only book that Thoreau took with him to Walden Pond.
• It was the only book that Gandhi took with him to prison when he was arrested.

“The Gita is the universal mother. She turns away nobody. Her door is wide open to anyone who knocks….When disappointment stares me in the face and all alone I see not one ray of light, I go back to the Bhagavad-Gita. I find a verse here and a verse there, and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming tragedies -- and my life has been full of external tragedies -- and if they have left no visible or indelible scar on me, I owe it all to the teaching of Bhagavad-Gita.”
-- Mahatma Gandhi

We will use the Stephen Mitchell translation (Three Rivers Press, 2000) to discuss the 18 chapters together. There are many translations of the Gita and all are quite different – it’s important that we are all aligned for this group meeting, so even if you already have another version, please make a small investment in the above translation. Please purchase your own copy of the book before class. Raven will also lead opening and closing meditations for the group.

Open to all seekers, yogis, meditators, etc.

What is it inside of you that needs to come out? If not now, then when? Who are you in your life? In the world? What are your dreams – where is your passion? Are you living these yet?

No matter what your dreams or your gifts may be, you are welcome. Write, sing, act, dance/move, drum, draw, chant, play – we will use all of these tools and more to discover, uncover, recover, reclaim and re-ignite the creative fire inside. Express your True Self in a safe and supportive atmostphere and learn tools to stop your self-sabotage once and for all. We will use The Artists’ Way book by Julia Cameron as a jumping off point for our exploration together on this 13-week journey.
